sholio: Peter from White Collar smiling (WhiteCollar-Peter)
[livejournal.com profile] aqwt101 posted some screencaps of Neal raising his hand in the conference room that were so adorable I asked her if I could share them.

Caps from 1x10 - under the cut mostly to avoid spamming the non-White Collar people )

ETA: Also, a White Collar fic rec! I already rec'd this over at [livejournal.com profile] whitecollar_rec, but Shared Breath by Sandra S is lovely old-school h/c, all about the shared peril and the worry and .... eeeeeee. :) Just wanted to spread the joy!
sholio: (WhiteCollar-Hard Sell Peter Neal)
This year I did art for [personal profile] frith_in_thorns' Big Bang fic (which I also served as an early beta for) and now she's posted it! :D

Hold With All You Have (32K) - this link goes to the story post on DW, which also has links to the various other places where the fic is posted.

It is a wonderful fic; I was so delighted to beta it, and about 2/3 of the way through I hit a scene that made me go "... I HAVE TO DRAW THIS" so I asked if I could be her artist as well. :D

That said, it's an apocafic, so do heed the warnings; there is death and angst and more death. It's a lovely story full of friendship and adventure (and I'm really looking forward to reading the whole thing from the beginning!) but it's also, er, about most of the population dying horribly in a pandemic and the rest struggling to survive in a world gone mad, so obviously that's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

My art is posted under the cut. The first image is a fairly generic cover; the latter two illustrate a somewhat spoilery scene from later the story. One of these images contains a graphic depiction of dead animals.

Art under cut )

More recs

sholio: tree-shaped cookie (Christmas cookies)
A few more random recs from all over the place, so that I can close some tabs! Not all Yuletide this time, just fics that I happen to have open in tabs at the moment.

Though I Sang in My Chains Like the Sea (Rivers of London) - This is the long Rivers of London fic that I mentioned in the last recs post, and it is just as good as I had hoped, and more! It's a wonderfully plotty casefic, full of interesting little details of the characters' lives and funny-snarky-sweet interaction between Nightingale, Peter and Lesley. OH EVERYONE! ♥ If you like the books, this is a must-read.

Of Christmas Past by BlueKiwi (Dresden Files) - Like the last Dresden Files fic I recced awhile back, this is another "Thomas and his siblings" fic (I seem to really like those!). This time it's set after "Turn Coat" and deals with Thomas at his darkest and lowest, separated from the people he loves most (Justine and Harry), believing himself a monster, and now, haunted by the (literal) ghosts of his dead brothers and sisters. Despite the premise, it's not horribly depressing; it's more a reminder that Thomas is a much better person than he often thinks he is.

Where the Lovelight Gleams by [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 (White Collar) - A sweet and hilarious (and long!) holiday story about Neal and Diana, after being loaned out to the Chicago office, trying to get home to New York for Christmas. So much fun!

Proof by [personal profile] frith_in_thorns (White Collar) - Sweet h/c schmoop with a drunken Neal. Frith-in-thorns does such a wonderful job with these people and their affection for each other.

And I just recently beta'd a White Collar/Carnivale crossover by [livejournal.com profile] aragarna: Let's Shake Some Snow. It's a sweet White Collar Christmas fic with a little background Carnivale woven into it.
sholio: slice of pie with ice cream and apples (Autumn-apple pie)
This looks like fun: Fandom Appreciation Challenge 2012! On DW / On LJ. Quoting: The Fandom Appreciation Challenge is about giving feedback, reccing and interacting with other fen. ... The Fandom Appreciation Challenge runs for a week and consists of seven individual daily challenges AKA Day Challenges.

DAY 1: On your journal, rec three fanworks by people you don't know and whose works you haven't read/watched/listened to/looked at before.

This is made somewhat easier by having recently dipped my toe in a new fandom. *g*

Recs for Homestuck and White Collar )

ETA: Damn, I did this wrong! *facepalm* Now that I'm looking at the comments to the Fandom Challenge entry, you're supposed to go find new fanworks and rec them, and this is all stuff I've read previously. Reading comprehension fail, self! Well, you guys get some recs anyway, so everybody wins (except me). :D

sholio: sun on winter trees (Autumn-berries)
[personal profile] michelel72 has three SGA tie-in novels looking for a new home (Death Game, Homecoming, The Lost); the linked post also includes links to her reviews of the books. (The books are free; a donation to an animal rescue charity would be appreciated but is not required.) ETA: Taken!

[personal profile] rachelmanija has a rather awesome ... well, I'm not sure whether to call it fanfic or classify it otherwise, but it's basically the diagnosis notes of Miles Vorkosigan's therapist, and if you are familiar with Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan books, it's a lot of fun, and sounds pretty much spot-on to me. *g* (I don't think you could pay me enough to be the Vorkosigans' therapist ...)

As a sci-fi fan, I'm pretty sure this is the best billboard ever. (What makes it awesome is that it's serious.)

Vid rec: these are the days (of miracle and wonder) by [personal profile] kaydeefalls (also on DW) - (X-Men, all movies) This vid made me SO HAPPY. Very well edited and just full of happy, bouncy nostalgic squee; it takes me right back to the delight of watching the first X-Men movie and seeing these characters that I'd loved since childhood come to life in a superhero movie that was actually good! I still haven't seen the most recent couple of movies, but enjoyed it anyway and didn't feel like I was missing anything.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] kriadydragon, this rec's for you! Well, for any other interested parties as well, of course, but I think you'd particularly enjoy it, if you haven't already read it: Monsieur Vol du Furet - White Collar, absolutely adorable short-yet-plotty fic in which Neal + ferret = awesome.

Streets of Gold by [livejournal.com profile] noiproksa (gen, ensemble, action)

[livejournal.com profile] noiproksa made a White Collar vid for me in the Fall Fandom Free-For-All, and it is wonderful! I asked for a fast-paced, cheerful ensemble vid, and this is PERFECT: great song choice and excellent editing and a whole slew of fun clips of the characters being their irrepressible, adorable selves. It made me smile so much, and now I need to go rewatch it A BUNCH, because it is made of happy. ♥

This post brought to you from the Department of Closing Open Tabs ... *g*

[livejournal.com profile] leesa_perrie has started a new SGA community: [livejournal.com profile] rodneymckay_gen. The name is fairly self-explanatory, I think! :) There is a comment fest in progress; they also take recs and just about anything else that fits the comm rules.

I still need to get around to doing a proper White Collar fanworks rec post (or twelve), but here's a quick White Collar insta-rec: Lost Loves by [personal profile] sam_storyteller - it's short, hilarious and TOTAL CRACK. It's a crossover with other fandoms, and telling you which ones would spoil the main joke, but if you're even glancingly familiar with the pop culture of American childhood, you will probably recognize them by reputation if nothing else.

Also, if you read Fullmetal Alchemist at all, I just discovered a fabulous story through a rec from [personal profile] astridv: You've Got to Choose, a Wish or Command by [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce is a gorgeous look at pre-series Riza: herself, her life, and the world in which she lives. It feels so real and concrete, loaded with details of life in East City and threaded with subtle commentary on economic/gender/racial bias in the FMA world through Riza's eyes - it's great!

And over in Doctor Who, here's a very detailed timeline of the life of River Song with analysis of her character development through all the seasons in which she's appeared (backwards). It makes a lot of sense and fits everything that I remember from the show. (Actually, if they did put this much work into her character development, then I'm even more impressed; I had assumed that they were kinda winging it, but all of this seems to fit with what we saw on the show.)

Tim DeKay is a very good-looking man. *flutters*

I need to do a White Collar recs post, but as usual, I'm too busy reading and watching stuff to sit down and make a rec for any of it. However, I have to drop a quick insta-rec for this one: The Many and Varied Reasons Why Neal Caffrey Should Listen to His Friend Moz by [livejournal.com profile] dhrelva (the link goes to an LJ post that links to the story). There's not a whole lot of long fic in this fandom, and this is a nice, long, gen fic set in season one, with a unique and original plot involving Neal's artistic talents. Everybody is very much in character, with a particularly neat take on Neal.
