A couple random things about Winter Soldier
No thinky metanalysis here; I mostly just wanted to say how surprised I am at the extent that this movie's gotten under my skin and kept me thinking about it, because I'm not really into the Captain American franchise generally -- while I enjoyed the previous Captain America movie a lot more than I thought it was going to, it was probably my least favorite of the movies leading up to Avengers. (Well, except the Hulk ones, which were instantly forgettable ...)
But this one really sucked me in. I happen to have a huuuuge narrative kink for two of the movie's central tropes -- "brainwashed into killing your friends" and "unjustly accused and on the run; trust no one!" And I just basically really liked everyone in the movie. I also really loved that it was so ensemble-focused that it really felt like another Avengers movie, one that just didn't happen to have all the Avengers in it ... as opposed to Iron Man 3, which I adored, but which was very clearly Tony's story, while this one is a lot more concerned with the larger Avengersverse mythos.
Question:
In the early scenes with Nick Fury, he asks the computer who security-protected the data and it answers that he did, which seems to come as a surprise to him. I'd taken that scene as a "tell" that there was mind control or time travel involved, or that this wasn't really Fury. But, as it turned out, there was nothing of the sort happening. So what was going on there? Your thoughts?
And a prediction (based on comics, not on anything I've heard about the movies):
What are the odds that Cap3 is going to be the Death of Captain America movie, with Bucky assuming Steve's costume/identity? DISCUSS!

I hadn't thought of that! But actually that'd also fit well with the rumors that Chris Evans wants to stop acting (though I think he has one movie contract left after Cap 3? Oh well, flashbacks.) And then can we have a movie about Bucky-as-Captain-America and Sam Wilson/Falcon working together to a) find and capture Steve's killer, b) heal? I want it. Natasha can be in it, and Clint. And Carol Danvers. (And Eli Bradley because yolo.)

Ordinarily, I'd say not high, but given that Evans may be pulling out after the next couple movies (or so I hear), it's much more likely. I think typically, comic book movies don't like to take the same big, game changing risks that comics do, because there are far fewer movies than issues of comic books, and because movies depend on mass appeal. But, then again, TWS dismantled SHIELD, so.
I really love Steve, so I'd rather not lose him. (And while I liked Bucky well enough, and certainly felt for him, he didn't punch me in the gut, emotionally speaking.) But if Evans did want to leave the franchise, that'd be a good way to do it.

On the other hand, it's been pretty clearly established that in the Marvel movie universe, as in the comics 'verse, "dead" only stays dead as long as the writers want it to, so we could easily get a death scene in one movie and then Cap coming back as soon as they dangle enough money in front of Chris Evans. *g*

(But if Evans wants out -- yeah. My favorite actors seem to not like their current gigs much.)

But yeah, I really don't want him to die, but it makes a lot of sense as a trajectory for the character to take. On the other hand, "dead" is only dead as long as the writers want it to be -- that's pretty well established at this point, which means even if he does die, he'll likely be coming back at some point if they could get Chris back.

Also, if Sebastian is signed for that many movies, then it's likely he'll be turning up in some of the other characters' movies as well.
... how sad is it that I've only just watched this one, and I want MORE MOVIES NOW!
