A few more random Avatar recs

And I've just started going through fanart, too ... wow, there is some incredible art in this fandom. *flails happily*

Fic

This is a Proposal, Seriously by [livejournal.com profile] primroseshows - Set several years after the series, Sokka decides to propose to Toph, and unfortunately his friends get involved. It's really much more of a team story than a Sokka/Toph story, and it's hilariously adorable. The idea that they're all this much in touch, and this close, even years after the war, makes my heart melt. (Sokka/Toph, passing Zuko/Mai)

New Directions by [personal profile] such_heights - Toph doesn't go home after the war. A really wonderful look at the girls in the time immediately after the war: Toph, Katara and Suki. (Gen)

untitled Ursa and Zuko commentfic by [livejournal.com profile] suzukiblu - This is a fairly different take on Ursa and Zuko finding each other again. It's heartbreaking but plausible, and I like the way the team relationships are drawn in just a few deft strokes. (Gen)

untitled Zuko and Appa commentfic by [livejournal.com profile] suzukiblu - This is a neat little introspective Zuko POV from very early in his time with the group at the Western Air Temple, trying to figure out how to fit in and make amends. (Gen)

High Expectations by [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose - One thing that's been bugging me about a lot of A:tLA fic is the way that the fundamental non-Westernness of the setting is often discarded by the fanfic writers. This, on the other hand, is a delightful look at Fire Nation courtship and wedding customs with a strong Chinese influence, in which Mai tries to figure out her proper role as the prospective Fire Lady, Iroh isn't much help, Toph is even less help, and Zuko is hideously embarrassed by the whole thing. (Zuko/Mai)

Signs that Can't Be Learned by ArtemisRae - Babyfic is a pretty hard sell for me, but I really liked this one, in which Aang and Katara are looking after Zuko and Mai's baby (d'awwww) and Katara ponders how Aang will balance being the Avatar with having a family. The couple dynamics are delicately drawn, and I just really liked it; good Katara-POV fic is hard to find. (Aang/Katara, background Zuko/Mai)

[livejournal.com profile] kindoflikeyou is a Zuko/Mai ficathon that contains a whole bunch of good Zuko/Mai fic. Sadly it looks like it only went one year, but there are still several pages of lovely fic. (Masterlist here.) And there is also an [livejournal.com profile] avatarbigbang; story posting will begin on Aug. 21st, and looking at the story summaries from the artist claim post, it looks like they have a wide variety of pairings and story types available. *bounces*

Also, I am not sure how many people outside anime fandom know about Fleeting Fancies & [livejournal.com profile] tomomichi? It's been my one-stop anime rec shopping place ever since, I dunno, 2002 or so; I'm amazed that it's still going strong since I think it's a one-person operation, but it is, and there's an Avatar section (as well as recs in a ton of other fandoms, anime and otherwise).

Vids

Tamacun by [livejournal.com profile] cherryice - This was rec'd to me by two different people as the definitive Appa vid, and wow, is it ever! But it's also a gorgeous team vid, and Avatar world vid, and just ... gorgeous, in general.

Heavenly by [livejournal.com profile] bananainpyjamas - A Zuko vid about his changing relationships with Aang and Azula over the course of the series -- which amounts to three and a half nicely vidded minutes of Zuko shooting fire at things and being pretty. Which is just fine with me.

And I already rec'd I'm Still Here in its own post, but I'm adding it here so that I have things all together.

ETA: I do not know what's wrong with me today; I don't think I've ever borked HTML this badly. I must've edited this post 15 times, and every time I think I've fixed everything, I see another improperly closed tag or badly constructed journal link. AAAAGH.
