It's definitely a black-and-gray-morality kind of show, but most of it isn't like that. I also don't feel that she's supposed to be unambiguously sympathetic; a lot of her character development over the seasons involves becoming less ruthless and victory-at-all-costs, tempering her desire to win with her awareness of the humanity of the people on the other side.

But yes, that definitely happened.
